I would love to some opinions of Winnipeg people and Bomber fans.  To me, when I first heard about this project, I was skeptical about Asper.  But, I haven't followed it close enough and would like to hear what others have to say.

  1. As a Blue Bomber fan and season ticket holder, I am hugely in favor of this project. As a Manitoba taxpayer, yes it is going to be expensive, but funds get wasted on projects that would be of much less benefit to the community on a regular basis. I am certain that I would rather my tax dollars go towards this new stadium as opposed to more wasteful social programs in the nuclear wasteland also known as Winnipeg's North End. Canad Inns Stadium is rapidly reaching the end of its useful life, and a repair job just temporarily delays the inevitable. The cost of building the new stadium isn't going to go down, so I don't really see the benefit of waiting.

When the initial pricetag of $115 million came out, count me among those who said "no way". This demonstrates the incredible stupidity of our politicians (all of them!!! mayor, premier, feds) who apparently did not cost out the project! I don't know how they ever thought they would get away with this. How dumb and embarassing for all of them.

As for Asper, full marks to him for championing this project and getting it off the ground. At this point, I would just as soon he not be involved though. My biggest fear is that he would get in this too deep and not have the cash to fund the football operations a few years down the line. Keep the team community owned, and use the revenue generated by the new stadium to keep the team competitive.
